KLYUCHEVSKOY VOLCANO: NEW FLANK ERUPTION NAMED AFTER G.S. GORSHKOV, 2021 (KAMCHATKA)

نویسندگان

چکیده

February 18, 2021, a flank eruption started on the north-western slope of Klyuchevskoy Volcano (Kamchatka, Russia). Cinder cone was formed at altitude 2 850 m above sea level, from which lava flow spreading north-west. Having moved 1.2 km downslope, entered Ehrmann Glacier, resulted in formation huge mud-stone flows. The latter made their way further north-east along Kruten’kaya River bed and reached length about 30 km. brought onto surface high-aluminous basaltic andesites typical Volcano. By March 21, ended. It has been named after G.S. Gorshkov, associate member USSR Academy Science, famous Russian volcanologist.

Pre - eruption deformation caused by dike intrusion beneath Kizimen volcano , Kamchatka , Russia , observed by InSAR

a r t i c l e i n f o Interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) images reveal a pre-eruption deformation signal at Kizimen volcano, Kamchatka, Russia, where an ongoing eruption began in mid-November, 2010. The previous eruption of this basaltic andesite-to-dacite stratovolcano occurred in 1927–1928. InSAR images from both ascending and descending orbital passes of Envisat and ALOS PALSAR...

Predictability of Volcano Eruption: lessons from a basaltic effusive volcano

Volcano eruption forecast remains a challenging and controversial problem despite the fact that data from volcano monitoring significantly increased in quantity and quality during the last decades. This study uses pattern recognition techniques to quantify the predictability of the 15 Piton de la Fournaise (PdlF) eruptions in the 1988-2001 period using increase of the daily seismicity rate as a...

Modeling Strombolian eruptions of Karymsky volcano, Kamchatka, Russia

A model is proposed to explain temporal patterns of activity in a class of periodically exploding Stromboliantype andesite volcanoes. These patterns include major events (explosions) which occur every 3^30 min and subsequent tremor with a typical period of 1 s. This two-periodic activity is thought to be caused by two distinct mechanisms of accumulation of the elastic energy in the moving magma...

The origin of hydrous, high-dO voluminous volcanism: diverse oxygen isotope values and high magmatic water contents within the volcanic record of Klyuchevskoy volcano, Kamchatka, Russia

Klyuchevskoy volcano, in Kamchatka’s subduction zone, is one of the most active arc volcanoes in the world and contains some of the highest dO values for olivines and basalts. We present an oxygen isotope and melt inclusion study of olivine phenocrysts in conjunction with major and trace element analyses of Cand tephrochronologically-dated tephra layers and lavas spanning the eruptive history o...
